How do I login to the patient portal?

On the Patient Portal login page, enter your Username and click Login. Our staff is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of our patients.

When will the Orthopedic Institute patient portal move to Athena?

Orthopedic Institute launched the Patient Portal using the Athena platform on June 15th, 2020. Physician notes from patient visits before that date did not get moved over to the new portal. For information regarding a visit to Orthopedic Institute before June 20th, 2020, please call 605-331-5890.

Where is Orthopedic Institute located?

Orthopedic Institute offers excellent orthopedic care across South Dakota, Western Minnesota, and Western Iowa. Our locations and partners offer convenient access for your consultation, treatment, or surgery.

Which browser is compatible with the patient portal?

For the best experience, use the Google Chrome browser. Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) may not be fully compatible with the patient portal.

Is there a patient portal for the Athena app?

At this time, there is no patient portal, mobile app. You may find an Athena portal in the App Store, but it is not for patients and will not work. Please use your mobile browser to access the portal. Orthopedic Institute launched the Patient Portal using the Athena platform on June 15th, 2020.

Does Google Chrome work on mobile?

Google Chrome or Safari may appear to work from your phone in a mobile environment, but some features such as printing forms may not function properly from a phone. There is not a mobile app, but a mobile browser will work. At this time, there is no patient portal, mobile app.

What is a high resolution MRI?

High-field, high-resolution MRI operating at 3 Tesla used for joint and spine disorders, bone and soft tissue disorders, and rheumatologic diseases. High-resolution MRI at 3 Tesla (the highest-strength magnetic field available for medical practice) allows better detection of abnormalities than standard MRI.

The UCSF Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging is home to many state-of-the-art research labs, all working to use imaging technologies to improve the understanding, diagnosis and treatment of disease.

Why do we need MRI to assess cartilage quality?

MRI techniques to analyze cartilage quality before cartilage is lost, which allows us to assess the risk for osteoarthritis.

What is MR arthrography?

MR arthrography for better evaluation of shoulder, wrist, elbow and hip joints to find the cause of pain and limited function. This technique (in which we inject the joint with a material that enhances imaging) improves analysis of cartilage.

What is MR technology?

MR technologies to suppress motion in patients with pain or claustrophobia, allowing us to obtain better-quality images.

Why is motion correction imaging used?

Our motion-correction imaging allows for shorter exam times and less time spent in the scanner.

Does UCSF offer MRI?

UCSF Radiology at the Orthopaedic Institute provides musculoskeletal imaging tests, such as MRI and bone mineral density measurements, as well as image-guided procedures for treating osteoarthritis. We also offer the convenience of same-day X-ray services when you come to the institute for your orthopedic appointment.
